THE GOLF COURSE

Tallwoods golf course is an established, world-class, 18-hole championship course and is proudly Australia’s only course designed by the award winning Dr Michael Hurdzan.

Dr Hurdzan utilised the undulating topography to create a wonderful course that traverses rugged terrain with severe elevation changes. Several green complexes sit in little amphitheaters, buried in the hillside beneath extravagant home sites. Tallwoods is an arborist’s delight featuring a mixture of high canopy majestic eucalyptus (tallowoods, blackbutt, ironbark, yellow gums and red gums). With prolific native vegetation and extensive water features throughout the course.

Once you scale the side of a mountain on a meandering path you are gifted with spectacular views above the tree tops to the ocean.

Tallwoods is located on the Mid North Coast a 3.5 hour drive north of Sydney. We have fifteen new, superbly furnished, bungalows which is the perfect base for an escape to the spectacular Great Lakes region, The Great Lakes also unfurls beautiful beaches ideal for swimming, surfing and fishing. HOLE 1

WELCHEL'S LOG - Par 4

The giant log seat was named after David Whelchel the golf architect from Hurdzon Fry who was in charge of Tallwoods. A university golf coach and player who turned to architecture.

Hole1-1.png

HOLE 4

THE FIVE APOSTLES - Par 4

The five trees give this delightful short Par 4 its name. The rear of the green is fast and can be treacherous. It is called a 4, 7 or 11 hole for a reason - looks easy - be VERY careful!

hole4.png

HOLE 7

ILLUSIONS - Par 4

The 'illusion' bunkers appear to squeeze the fairway; however, there is a gap between the bunkers that can sometimes provide respite for those who think they 'are on the beach'.

hole7.png

HOLE 10

THE GREAT ANGOPHORA -  Par 4

A beautiful green... a lovely Par 4. Lake Tallwoods frames the right hand side of the fairway and a giant Angophora Eucalypt provides the perfect turning point to the left hand dog leg.

hole10.png

HOLE 13

BUNYAH - Par 5

This superb Par 5 is the start of our 'Amen Corner' named for the Bunyah Pines planted on both sides of the fairway. You must 'be up' with the shot to the green as it is very deceptive.

hole13.png

HOLE 16

THE PLATEAU - Par 3

This will be the hardest hole on the course when the pin is behind the 'pot' bunker and the wind blows in your face. The lightning-fast green will test the finest of players ... steel yourself!

hole16.png

HOLE 2

THE GLADE - Par 3

A delightful Par 3 set in a glade of trees. A large bunker guards the left side of the green and a deep swale guards the right. Don’t miss it left… then don’t miss it right either.

hole2.png

HOLE 5

HIDE 'N' SEEK - Par 5

A Par 5 of great beauty and solitude. The green is hidden until after you have played your second. You must 'be up' with your shot to the flag as the green has a false front to deceive you.

hole5.png

HOLE 8

THE DEVIL'S PULPIT Par 4

Famed for his "Devil's Pulpit" and many other courses, Tallwoods designer Dr. Mike Hurdzan was US Golf Architect of the Year in 1997. The world's leading Environmental Golf Architect.

hole8.png

HOLE 11

THE SENTINELS  - Par 3

Across Lake Tallwoods, the giant sentinel gums are synonymous with Tallwoods Village. Four of the tees must cross the water, but we have a honey-moon tee for those who can't make it.

hole11.png

HOLE 14

QUATTROCCHI'S  - Par 3

His famous 'ballet with dirt' has shaped many of the famous Hurdzan golf courses, including Tallwoods. Guy Quattrocchi - 'the Legend from Arizona'. This is his favourite Tallwoods hole.

hole14.png

HOLE 17

THE INCLINATOR  - Par 4

From the penultimate tee, a majestic hole with grand ocean and mountain views. A spotted gum stands guard on the right hand edge of the fairway. 'Memories' of your round at Tallwoods.

hole17.png

HOLE 3

THE QUARRY - Par 5

Situated on the site of an ugly quarry. The hole is only 437 meters long but it plays uphill against the prevailing wind. One of the best and toughest short par 5s you will ever play.

hole3.png

HOLE 6

PURGATORY - Par 3

Halfway between heaven and hell, this memorable hole is a true chameleon. 180 metres of championship Par 3 from the 'Black Tee'. For those who really love beauty and their golf.

hole6.png

HOLE 9

THE BLACK STUMP - Par 4

A deceptively difficult Par 4 with a remnant black stump, a reminder of the 'logging years'. Don't miss the fairway on the right as there is a small pond that 'eats' golf balls.

hole9.png

HOLE 12

BLACKBUTT ALLEY - Par 4

Its name comes from the alley of mainly blackbutts. This challenging Par 4 plays into the prevailing nor'easter. Don't spray your drive to the right as Lake Tallwoods is waiting.

hole12.png

HOLE 15

THE ROGUE - Par 5

A Par 5 destined to become a great one? It is 534 metres to a 50 metre long, elevated green set obliquely to the line of your third shot. From the back tee, Tiger Woods can't reach it in two!

hole15.png

HOLE 18

HELL OR GLORY - Par 5

Strategic or heroic, this reachable Par 5 is guarded by bunkers and water. Designed to tempt those who 'think they can play like Jack Nicklaus'. Risk it all, and possibly ...pay the price!
